How to Potty Train Stubborn KidsPotty training is by far an easy task to conquer. The stakes are raised even higher when you’re potty training stubborn kids. This may be one of the hardest tasks that you will encounter. Sometimes you have to get creative with potty training. Since all children aren’t the same, you may have to try quite a few methods before you find something that suits your child. There’s a saying that the early bird catches the worm, but in this case, this is not true. Many people make the mistake of punishing their child to potty train as soon as they are able to walk. Instead of doing this, wait until your child shows signs that they are ready for this transition physically and mentally. If you aren’t quite sure of what to look for, the ability to walk, dry periods, and urinating in large amounts at one time are a few signs. If you have a stubborn child, the situation may become a little easier. The physical and mental readiness signs will be a little different. Some of these signs include being able to follow instructions, being able to sit in one position for minutes at a time, putting toys and other belongings where they belong, ready to learn new things, and being able to understand the words potty, stool, and urine. Following directions is also a key point here. It’s very interesting that potty training stubborn children has absolutely nothing to do with the potty. Following instructions is the first step to successful potty training. Some parents wonder if rewarding their child is a bit much or if it will damage them in some way. Rewarding your child every now and then is not a problem. Some children actually do a lot better with potty training and in other situations when they are rewarded for something good. Talking about potty training before it happens is a good idea and a good method to use. This is a very sensitive issue with many stubborn kids. A child may become resistant when a parent is overly excited about the situation. When you discuss such matters with a stubborn child, these conversations should be short and straight to the point. When potty training a stubborn kid, another thing you have to be is persistent. 9 times out of 10, the child won’t grasp the entire concept on the first try. All this means is that you have to keep trying. You should take at least a week or two to get your child used to potty training. For some children, it may only take a week, while others may take two to three. Doing this over the holidays or some other form of vacation is also a good idea. Having little or even no clothes on is comfortable to toddlers and stubborn children who are going through the potty training phase. Because of this fact, many parents decide to potty train in the summer time so that they child can roam freely throughout the house and be comfortable. |
