Single Parent - Facing ProblemsBeing a single parent is a much tougher task and it is a lifetime responsibility and needs a lot of thinking and analyzing before you decide to become a single parent. Single parents are either parents due to choice or due to other reasons like divorce, death of the other partner but then as a single parent you will have to shoulder the responsibilities of both the parent by giving your child all the love, care and understanding. Though initially you may feel apprehensive when it comes to handling a child alone you need to overcome these apprehensions and carry on with life. As a single parent your responsibility increases as you will have to take care of both the physical as well as emotional needs of your child. You as a parent need to instill good habits like personal hygiene, behavior with friends and others, punctuality, food habits, performance at school etc which will make your child a more responsible person who will never regret to take up responsibilities. Try to bring out the best in your child with innovative ideas and encourage your child to do his or her best chosen field of interest. As a single parent you too need to find a good backup as there will be times when you need to seek help or support when you have to take certain decisions when it comes to bringing up your child. This decision can be when it comes to foreign travel, accommodations etc when it comes to your child’s wellbeing. There are people who will come out with unbiased advice when you seek help, and if you have still maintained a good relationship with your ex spouse then you can always seek advice when it comes to taking certain major decisions regarding your child. If you are a divorcee then make it a point to allow your child to meet up or interact with your ex-spouse though depending upon the situation. Never vent up your bitterness or spoil the relationship between your ex and your child by abusing or poisoning the mind of your child so as to make a lasting friendship with your child because the child will see through it sooner or later and this can destroy your relationship with your child. As a single parent the level of responsibility increases trying to outrun these responsibilities is unwarranted as you are a human and are bound to get tired or frustrated thus ending up removing those pent up emotions on to your child. Develop a healthy relationship with the people of your society and spend some quality time with your child so that this bond cannot be broken under any circumstances. Many a times you may have to face situations where in the presence of both of you is required and such situations can cause a lot of pressure, so it is better to make your child understand so that he or she does not have any peer pressure which can cause a lot of damage like your child might end up with problems like depression, self-pity etc, so as a single parent you yourself should not indulge in self-pity or depression so that you can handle yourself and your child better. |
